S.T.A.R. and Mecklenburg County Aid Displaced Homemakers

POSTED June 9, 2008 - A group of displaced homemakers in Mecklenburg County has new energy and ideas about their prospects, thanks to their recent participation in "Adventures in Attitudes."  The workshop was conducted by Mary Elizabeth Murphy, Managing Director of S.T.A.R. Resources, in cooperation with the Mecklenburg County Women's Commission. Class members celebrated with a graduation ceremony that featured a luncheon and fashion show (with students as models) at the University Hilton.

"Adventures in Attitudes teaches you to change negative attitudes into positive, high-energy performance," explains Murphy.  “When difficult situations occur, your buttons are going to get pushed - there’s no doubt about that.  The question is: how do you respond?  How do you reset your buttons and adjust your attitude?”  Course content included Effective Listening, Developing Communication Skills, Attitude Awareness, Dealing with Emotions, Understanding People, Attitudes of Personal Empowerment, Creative Problem Solving, Team Building Strategies, Motivational Power, and Reaching Your Potential.
